What is Remedial Massage
Remedial massage focuses on the causes of musculoskeletal dysfunction and discomfort, rather than just focusing solely on pain relief. Is a holistic approach that uses several diagnostic techniques to locate and repair damage while also supporting and speeding up the body’s own repair mechanisms.
In particular, it is the specific manipulation of soft tissue (muscle, ligament, tendon and fascia) that can help restore function by treating and preventing specific health issues, musculoskeletal dysfunction and injuries.
There are several techniques used during a remedial massage, each with a particular use specific to a desired outcome.
Massage is an art as well as a science
Clients should seek medical advice before having a massage if they suffer from phlebitis (inflammation of a vein, usually in the leg), thrombosis (intravascular coagulation of the blood or blood clot), severe acute back pain, have an infectious disease or have a fever.
Although massage can be beneficial for cancer patients, it is also advisable to get a medical release from your doctor before having a massage.
Some side effects from Remedial Massage may include
- Soreness and tenderness for a day or two, recommend hot showers and heat packs
- Occasionally may experience light headedness after massage due to a temporary drop in blood pressure
