Chiropractic for Kids
Many people are surprised to learn that babies and children receive Chiropractic adjustments. The fact is, many parents report Chiropractic care as an extremely effective means in helping resolve numerous childhood health complaints. It is important to remember, the goal of Chiropractic care is not to treat ear infections or asthma for example, but to eliminate subluxations, allowing the nervous system to function at full capacity, and in turn help the body heal itself.
Why do Babies see Chiropractors
Even under optimal conditions the birth process is potentially an extremely traumatic event for your newborn. Massive forces placed on the newborn's neck during delivery can cause subluxations and neurological damage. A difficult birth, including forceps delivery, long labor or caesarean birth, may only add to the stress placed on your baby’s spine.
Infants and Children
The spine can grow by as much as 50% within the first year of a child’s life. As infants develop learning to sit, crawl, stand and walk, spinal trauma in the form of constant slips and falls becomes an issue. Hence, regular Chiropractic checkups are so important at this early stage to allow for correct spinal development. As kids enter school age, slips and falls, carrying school bags, sporting accidents and poor posture are all sources by which they may become subluxated. Often kids are more resilient and adaptive than adults, so inturn problems may be brushed off as ‘growing pains’ or just a ‘phase they are going through’. Again emphasising the need for regular spinal checks to ensure potential problems don’t get left unresolved.
Chiropractic is effective in helping many infant and childhood complaints such as colic, irritability, sleeping and feeding problems, allergies, asthma, ear infections, weakened immune system, and the list goes on.
Often parents are concerned that Chiropractic adjustments will be too forceful. In fact, they are extremely safe and gentle, only requiring the force or pressure equivalent to what an adult can tolerate on their eyeball. Also, young ones generally adapt and heal more rapidly than adults, thus allowing Chiropractic care to occur at a faster rate.
Finally, the quote “As the twig is bent, so grows the tree” holds true.
Correcting small nervous system imbalances over the duration of a child’s development will allow them to express their full potential into adulthood and the years to follow.
